Providing New Life For Wine Barrels
This ground breaking robotic barrel rejuvenation system can assist all wineries in acheiving consistent quality while minimising costs.
Vintech Pacific is currently running a test of this new technology with 25 selected New Zealand wine makers for the 2010 vintage.
Each winery has been supplied with Phoenix rejuvenated wine barrels and the results will be assessed post vintage.
After the tests prove successful we will be introducing machinery and technology to New Zealand to provide this new mobile service for our wine industry clients.

Key features of our Phoenix service will include:
Cost Effective
The patented Phoenix barrel rejuvenation process extends the life of wine barrels by up to three years at around a third of the cost of a new barrel.
Superior Contamination Removal
Phoenix removes all wine contaminants to a depth of 8mm exposing clean wood and restoring original oak flavour characteristics. The hi-tech Phoenix process utilises percision laser scanning and a high speed computer controlled cutting tool that removes up to 8mm off the inside of the barrel to reveal clean oak.
No Colour Leaching
The contaminated oak removal is so effective that even barrels previously containing red wine can be used successfully for white wine fermentation and maturation.
Infra-red Toasting
Ultra-consistent infrared toasting is applied using computer technology that removes the risk of toast variation and blistering.
New Heads
Each barrel is then re-crozed and fitted with 24 month country of origin seasoned French or American oak heads.

TESTIMONIAL: Tim Adams, Chief Winemaker, Tim Adams Wines, Clare Valley, South Australia.
“We trialled Diverse Barrel Solutions Phoenix French oak barrels which had been previously used for red wine for five years, against new Optima French oak and also new French from other suppliers. The Phoenix French oak barrels performed extremely well in these trials and proved to us that this is a rational and sustainable use of our barrels and a positive contribution to quality. The wine from these barrels and new barrels was blended and subsequently won the 2008 International Wine Challenge trophy for the best Semillon worldwide."
